Vegas Uncorked Culinary Festival Offers the Best Interactive Line Up for Bold Foodies

alt

In a city like Las Vegas, a sparkling, bold personality goes a long way. If Uncorked is the unofficial "starting line up" of the Vegas restaurant talent pool, you can best this festival is all-star weekend guaranteed to thrill. You can see the feast of gastronomic and social personalities represented. There's the jovial Paul Bartolotta, the impresario behind the luxurious Wynn Las Vegas' Bartolotta Ristorante di Mare, bringing a kiss of coastal bliss to sin city. There the lively master builder Daniel Boulud bringing his signature culinary flair to Daniel Boulud Brasserie at Wynn. His homemade patés specialties are so important to the menu that he has brought a charcutier directly from France to ensure authenticity. And of course, there's the plucky, irrepressible Cat Cora holding court at many Uncorked events in her role as Executive Chef of Bon Appétit. WOMAN.ca salutes Cora as she made television and culinary history as the first and only female Iron Chef. She's long been a popular television personality, appearing on NBC, Food Network and PBS, among others.

Daniel Boulud is chef-owner of six award-winning restaurants and the Feast & Fêtes catering company that make up The Dinex Group. While he hails from Lyon, France, it is in New York that he has truly mastered the culinary scene. Boulud's style is marked for his unique use of time honored French techniques applied to the finest seasonal American ingredients. Over the last two decades, Boulud has evolved from a chef to a chef-restaurateur, bringing his artistry to his New York City restaurants DANIEL, CAFE BOULUD, DB Bistro Moderne and Bar Boulud, the newly opened bistro across from Manhattan's Lincoln Center.

One of my favourite events of Uncorked? An all. Hosted by Bon Appétit editor-in-chief Barbara Fairchild, special correspondent Alan Richman, restaurant editor Andrew Knowlton, and features editor Hugh Garvey. Guests were invited to don a apron and get cooking with an all-star lineup of Wynn Las Vegas and Encore Las Vegas chefs at a brilliantly concieved and executed interactive luncheon. Many of these types of faux-interactive events skid off into a motley crew affair of too many cooks ruin the broth. In the case of the Wynn event, it was all very civilized, and not just because Elaine Wynn (pictured left) herself was presiding. Each of us at the table assisted in preparing an adventurous course with firsthand instruction from acclaimed chefs Paul Bartolotta, Daniel Boulud, Marc Poidevin and Alex Stratta. To top off the experience, we enjoyed wines paired with the portfolio of some of Southern Wine & Spirits of Nevada finest wines.
