Eggs Higher In Cholesterol Than KFC's Double Down
After several long months spent waiting in anticipation for KFC's Double Down, the infamous artery clogging sandwich has finally made its diet demolishing debut in Canada. Almost as shocking as the Krispy Kreme Bacon Cheeseburger, the sandwich consists of two breaded chicken patties used where the hamburger buns would usually go, with bacon, cheese, and sauce between them.
A trans-fat nightmare and with more sodium than the average daily intake, this menu item is not a good option for the faint of heart or....anyone who wants to avoid acid reflux. Interestingly enough, however, researchers are saying that one single egg yolk contains more cholesterol than the entire Double Down sandwich. For real!?
According to experts, a single large egg yolk contains 215 mg - 275 mg of cholesterol, more than the recommended daily amount of 200 mg a day. One Double Down has 150 mg of cholesterol, in comparison.
This, of course, is excluding the amount of sodium and trans-fats present in the Double Down but researchers say that consumers should still be wary of egg yolks as they put people at higher risk of heart attacks and strokes. People who developed diabetes while eating an egg a day also doubled their risk of cardiovascular disease compared with those who ate one egg a week.
Egg whites, however, are a good source of protein and when consumed properly and in moderation can be an excellent daily source of vitamins.
The Double Down sandwich, on the other hand....two thumbs double down.
