7 Eleven Features House Wine
After a late night run to 7-11, a spicy chicken taquito and plate of squeeze cheese nachos would seem like a classier meal if it was accompanied by a glass of wine. If you can believe it, your favourite convenience store just got that much more convenient. Yes, 7-11 is now the proud retailer of their very own house wine called Yosemite Road, available in white or red and sold at a humble $3.99 per bottle. The chain has also added Cherrywood Cellars to its line-up of proprietary wines at $7.99 - $8.99 per bottle, available in three varietals ? chardonnay, cabernet, sauvignon and merlot. Yum?
The target demographic is 'millenials'. Kids of today who see something new, shiny, and practical and immediately add it to their 'must have' list. Apparently a focus group study with a few millenials launched the idea. Jesus Delgado-Jenkins, 7-Eleven's senior VP-merchandising and logistics, discussed the rationale of one stop shop wine in a statement.
"We are targeting millennials because they like convenience and to try new products," he said.
Not a particularly insightful explanation, but he may have had a few glasses of Yosemite Road in him. We can't say we're on the edge of our seats in anticipation over 7-11 wine, but who are we to judge? The next time you're in a rush to a party and you've forgotten to bring a bottle of chardonnay, pop right in to 7-11 and you're good to go.
As for Mr. Delgado-Jenkins, call us when your millennials vote on 'Vodka Cran' slurpees.
