Why Brown-Bagging It Will Help You Save
Money comes and goes, but for most of us, it just goes and goes. One day we're flush in the bank, and the next, we're overdrawn in our accounts. How did we get to this point? I don't remember any big splurges?
That's because even without a big purchase, lunches, coffees and cabs all add up. And fast.
So, to cut back on my losses, I have vowed that I will be brown-bagging it as much as possible. The term "brown-bagging" isn't exactly drool inducing. However, never one to do anything in the status quo, I take my sacked lunches to another level.
With all of the dietary restrictions I deal with on a daily basis, relying on the 'just grabbing something’ method is never a great option and definitely not a healthy one.
How to keep your lunches fresh? Read on!
1. Look Online
As you already know, the web is a wealth of information, and there are many great "cold serve" recipes to be found. So many that you never have to eat the same thing twice!
2. Get Thrifty
Usually, the idea of leftovers makes me gag, but finding ways to reinvent leftovers is actually kind of fun! For example, last night's pasta and salad can be today's pasta salad! Simply take the left over noodles, sans sauce, grab a few veggies from your salad, like carrots, peppers, and peas, put them in a tupperwear together, add a bit of oil, vinegar, salt and pepper, and voila! Leave in the fridge to chill over night and you've got yourself a whole new meal!
3. Grocery Shop
Make a habit of hitting the grocery store at least once a week for a big shop. Plan you lunches out in advance, and make a list so that you have everything you need in your kitchen. Although the shop might seem expensive at first, $100 dollars spent at the store sure beats $150 spread out around McDonald's, Subway, and Taco Bell.
