Three alternatives to your morning coffee

altCan't start the day without a steaming cup of java? If you're the kind of gal who drops half her paycheck at the coffee shop, it might be time to think about trying something new in the morning. You can get the same kick of energy while taking a break from your cup o' joe, and you might even find something that you like better than coffee! Heresy, we know, but give these drinks a shot and see if they don't add a little variety to your mornings.

1. Black tea. Tea is similar to coffee in that it's mild, slightly bitter and contains caffeine. Most black teas contain about 20 percent of the caffeine of a cup of coffee, so you can get a little push to get started without overwhelming your body with drugs. English Breakfast and Earl Grey are two of the most common black teas, and you can enjoy them hot on a cool winter morning or add plenty of ice for a summer day treat.

2. Fruit juice. If you switch from coffee to juice, you can start adding lots of healthy nutrients to your morning routine. Just make sure you're drinking a healthy beverage that contains real fruit, not some sugary substitute made from concentrate. Freshly squeezed orange juice or a cold glass of tomato juice will really rev your engines in the a.m.

3. A French press. If you've really gotta have your coffee, consider switching to a travel French press. You'll save money and time by avoiding the coffee shop, and you'll get to enjoy delicious, freshly-brewed java every day instead of the sludge they serve at the office.
