Is there anything more classic and refreshing than a
tall, dewy glass of ice cold lemonade on a summer afternoon? This
summertime treat has been a July staple since long before you were old
enough to drink it, but store-bought brands can be loaded with
artificial flavors and colors. For the most nutritious - and delicious -
lemonade, you have to make it yourself. And it's not as hard as you
might expect!
Lemons are cheap and plentiful at the store, so stock up. Use a juicer to extract every bit of flavor from the citrus, but be careful not to let the seeds fall into your pitcher. Once you have enough lemon juice, stir in about four parts water for every one part lemon. That is, if you have a cup of lemon juice, you should add four cups of water. Add sugar to taste - you'll know you have enough when the drink becomes saturated and the excess sugar collects at the bottom, but you may choose to use less if you prefer your lemonade tart.
If you want to try something new, add another fruit to your drink! Muddled strawberries are a delicious choice that add a hint of summery sweetness, and the seeds add a delightful texture. Raspberries are another excellent addition that give another dimension to the drink's sour kick. You can also try adding peach slices, a few mint leaves or even basil!
Everyone will be asking for seconds on this refreshing and yummy summertime beverage.
