It's 10 p.m. Does your iPhone know where you are?
Obviously, the answer is yes, but it's also known where you've been since you've been carrying it around (and has a secret record of it that you don't know about). According to CNN, two researchers discovered a tracking file that Apple has passively created which details every movement its cell phone users make, information which is normally stored on your cellphone and theoretically can only be accessed with a court order.
"This is available to anyone who can get their hands on your phone or computer," the researchers said. " By passively logging your location without your permission, Apple has made it possible for anyone from a jealous spouse to a private investigator to get a detailed picture of your movements." So, Big Brother, or big deal? With the increasing popularity of programs like FourSquare, it's easy to argue that a sizeable portion of us don't care if any given psycho can track us down at any moment. Then again, lots of people are suspicious of Leviathans like Google, Apple, Facebook and so on, and this really doesn't help their case. All we're saying is - consensual stalking, please.
