Scarlett Slims Down and Speaks Out

Mrs. Ryan Reynolds Loses Her Curves, But Not Her Voice

Scarlett Johansson is hanging out with Jon Favreau as I type this, donning a spandex suit and entering summer-blockbuster territory. With her role in the Iron Man sequel came a new workout regime. And a new physique. And the disappearing curves have not gone unnoticed.

Instead of running to Us Weekly to deny eating-disorder and/or extreme-dieting rumors, Mrs. Ryan Reynolds wrote a fairly impressive essay for The Huffington Post. The beauty has brains, even when the curves are compromised for the sake of a picture.

(Let's be honest, gals. If we were filming beside Gwyneth all day, we'd be watching our Cheetos intake too.)

Yes, she's lost weight. No, not the "reported" 14 pounds:

"I'm a petite person to begin with, so the idea of my losing this amount of weight is utter lunacy. If I were to lose 14 pounds, I'd have to part with both arms. And a foot. I'm frustrated with the irresponsibility of tabloid media who sell the public ideas about what we should look like and how we should get there."

Point taken. Who are we to dictate that Ms. Johansson has to look a certain way? As she points out, tabloids are quick to jump on both weight loss AND weight gain. You can't win. Seth Rogen recently slimmed down for both health and role reasons. And no one is criticizing him as no longer funny. So accusing a young starlet of compromising her sexiness for the sake of the Black Widow's spandex suit is insane. Leave her be.

At least she has a beefcake husband at home. They can do pull-ups and eat egg-white omelets together, while comiserating over the superficiality of the business they're in.

My prediction? After a few month with Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett will grab a meaty acting role with very little to do with form-fitting clothing or purring over unavailable men. Maybe losing the curves will draw attention to her as an actress, not just an hourglass.
