Father Tries To Sell Off Daughter For Quick Payday
What's the price of fame? Apparently, in the eyes of Slumdog Millionaire child star Rubina Ali's father, about $300,000.
In a bid to set himself up in the Hollywood cribs lifestyle he'd like to become accustomed to, Rafiq Qureshi reportedly tried to sell off his nine-year old daughter.
Qureshi was brought in for questioning by the Mumbai police after he unknowingly spoke to the Brit tab News of the World.
Reporters from the paper posed as members of a wealthy Middle Eastern
family interested in buying the little girl in an attempt to confirm
that Qureshi was fielding a number of lucrative adoption offers.
We've got nothing out of [Slumdog Millionaire]," Qureshi told reporters during the tabloid's sting. "They gave some money at the start, but they gave nothing afterwards.
They gave us around 150,000 rupees [$3,000]. I have to consider what's best for me, my family and Rubina's future."
The
paper claims Qureshi initially tried to sell his daughter for $75,000
but raised the price on her head after the successs of Slumdog.
"The child is special now," the girl's uncle said, according to the paper. "This is an Oscar child."
Somewhere in the world, Angelina Jolie is raising her hand and asking, "Does he accept PayPal?"
