The Two-Wedding Trend Continues

Only weeks ago, we were chatting about Tom and Gisele's second wedding, speculating as to whether this was going to set new nuptial trends. And now Salma Hayek is set to celebrate a second wedding with her husband François-Henri Pinault in Venice, Italy this weekend.

You can't blame Salma for wanting the extravagant brouhaha. Her first wedding was a quiet affair on Valentine's Day at the 6th Arrondisement City Hall in Paris. A low-key Parisian wedding might suit the average gal just fine, but Salma isn't average. Nor is her husband. Businessman Pinault is the mogul behind PPR (whose holdings include Gucci, Yves Saint Laurent and Christie's auction house); his family is worth an estimated $16.9 billion. Surrounded by luxury has to influence one's cravings for the finer things, weddings included.

The wedding weekend began in style with the rehearsal dinner at Venice's historical Punta Della Dogana. In the courtyard, a Venice-style masked ball had Charlize Theron and Stewart Townsend donning masks and dancing the night away with fellow revelers former French president Jacques Chirac and his wife Bernadette.

Salma's bestie Penelope Cruz is also expected to attend. And camera crews have spotted her ex Ed Norton in the city for the big event. No word on whether Josh Lucas, another once-upon-a-boyfriend of Salma's will be in town with Rachel. Other random celebs in Venice? Olivier Martinez, Woody Harrelson, Antonio Banderas and David Blaine. The reception could get interesting.

Hayek, 42, and Pinault, 46, are parents to precious 19-month-old Valentina Paloma. After an on-and-off engagement, it seems this powerhouse couple is determined to make their marriage on-and-on.

Congrats to the happy couple. Someone has to keep the economy afloat. If it means masked celebs and catered decadence, so be it.
