It's on! Everyone's favorite couple is, in fact, a couple
It was the little movie that could, and now Dev Patel and his gorgeous Slumdog Millionaire costar are pursuing their own fairytale ending.
It always starts with fiction. We, the ever-impressionable and swooning audience, want our favorite movie couples to be real. When Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling broke up, a collective weepy sigh echoed across the nation. In an interview, Gosling recalled having to hug and console fans who couldn't handle his breakup. Oh, what a world.
And then there are the Twi-hards, the Twilight fans who won't accept that Rob Pattinson and Kristen Stewart could ever have eyes for anyone but each other. Notebook fans are nothing compared to this breed of passion.
Hollywood couples hook up on the set all the time. I mean, who can forget the delicious scandal of Mr. and Mrs. Smith? But it's not the same. While we care more about the personal lives of Brad and Angelina than we do our own families, the movie isn't one we've championed and held dear. We aren't invested in them as the couple to the point where we would pay for their relationship counseling should they need it.
They don't make us want to dance at a train station.
To make the Dev/Freida movie-love-turned-real even more endearing, Dev's mom is the one who confirmed the rumors about the couple after he recently showed up in Israel solely to wine and dine his lovely girlfriend. His mother's pride is full of that innocent unaffected optimism that we want to stand behind. And we probably won't take a breakup well.
"Life can't get any better for him."
Mrs. Patel, I hope you're wrong. For your talented 19-year-old's sake, here's hoping the best is yet to come. And here's also hoping that we, the giddy fans, will back off and let them be.
P.S. Patel over Pattinson. Any day. Yeah, I said it.
