Comedian says that she doesn't feel like she's a good fit at Idol
Yesterday it was announced that beloved judge Ellen DeGeneres will not be returning for the next season of American Idol. She follows in the footsteps of Simon Cowell who also announced his departure from the hit TV show back in January. Sadly, the talk show host has only served one year of her multi-year contract.
Ellen has released a statement (provided by Perez Hilton) on the reasons behind her departure:
"A couple months ago, I let FOX and the "American Idol" producers know that this didn't feel like the right fit for me. I told them I wouldn't leave them in a bind and that I would hold off on doing anything until they were able to figure out where they wanted to take the panel next. It was a difficult decision to make, but my work schedule became more than I bargained for. I also realized this season that while I love discovering, supporting and nurturing young talent, it was hard for me to judge people and sometimes hurt their feelings. I loved the experience working on "Idol" and I am very grateful for the year I had. I am a huge fan of the show and will continue to be."
Meanwhile the names of people who might replace Ellen have already started to pile up. Recently, Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler have been added to the American Idol list of possible candidates. FOX is expected to make an official announcement on Monday, August 2 2010 concerning the future of American Idol.
What do you think will happen to American Idol? Will they finally pull the plug?
