Many
people view celebrities as the image of perfection, but a recent
episode of the reality television series "Keeping Up With the
Kardashians," proved that stars are only human. Kim Kardashian was
diagnosed with psoriasis, an autoimmune disorder that results in scales
on the skin, after an unexpected trip to the doctor.
Kardashian claimed to be familiar with the disease, which runs in her family, according to CBS News. Currently, there is no cure for psoriasis, but there are various forms of treatment. Certain types of soap, lotion and ointment can control breakouts.
"Like millions of other Americans with psoriasis, Kim Kardashian is at increased risk for other serious health conditions associated with the disease, including heart disease, heart attack, diabetes, high blood pressure, obesity and depression," the National Psoriasis Foundation commented, according to the news source.
Approximately 7 million people live with the condition. Individuals who have a history of psoriasis in their families should immediately see a doctor upon noticing any unusual developments on their skin to treat the condition. Although it can result in unsightly symptoms, it can be controlled with proper medication.
