Colonic and CLEAN

Two Ways to Remove, Restore and Rejuvenate

The past few months have been challenging.  From my Summer of Flu, to mononucleosis and then finally discovering an uninvited parasite- I've been forced to rest and pay extra care to my ailing body.  There are many benefits of slowing down from the everyday pace- one I particularly appreciate is the increased awareness I now have of my digestive tract, my gut and the importance of proper colon care.

I have two new loves in my life, Nancy Sudano, co-owner of Toronto's Canadian Natural Health and Healing Clinic (CNHHC) and Dr. Alejandro Junger, author of Clean: The Revolutionary Program to Restore the Body's Natural Ability to Heal Itself.

Colonic treatment is a very intimate procedure that requires the compassionate hand of someone so very present as Nancy.  Nancy comes from a holistic background and a vast knowledge of the many systems that interact with our bowels from environment to emotions.

Nancy took great care to provide comfort throughout her colon cleansing treatment, keeping me at ease and minimizing discomfort by bringing my attention to what was going on, acknowledging the sensitivity of the process and sharing her insight.  The treatment leaves you feeling light and energetic, and filled with a sense of relief after eliminating the old waste material that was uselessly stored as, Nancy puts it, accumulated inventory.  CNHHC uses the organic auto-gravity hydro-therapeutic technique.  This traditional method is not pressurized by a machine but rather uses the natural flow of the filtered water and the communication between the client and the therapist to assist in both the physical and emotional release.

Though I had heard many accounts of the benefits of colonic irrigation, the impetus to actually have one came from the suggestion of the CLEAN program.  I decided I needed a detox to help jump-start my immunity.  It was time to say good riddance to foreign toxins that have accumulated inside of me and get back to a more pure physical and emotional state.

Hailing from Uruguay, Alejandro is a well-respected cardiologist who integrates his extensive training in Western Medicine with a vast knowledge of Eastern practices into a holistic practice at the Eleven Eleven Wellness Center in Manhattan.  In his book Clean, he shares his personal story of how he came to discover the benefits of cleansing after the taxing experience of living in New York City during his medical training.  The book provides a comprehensive account of the influence of our industrialized society on the body and how nutritional cleanses benefit overall functioning.  Detailed in the latter section is CLEAN, the program Alejandro developed to assist the body in healing and restoration.  With an emphasis on minimizing digestion, the program is designed to allow the body to focus on detoxification and with the aid of supplements the healthy intestinal flora growth, directly related to our immunity, is encouraged.

Though the process of detoxification happens naturally in healthy bodies, the impact of modern living imposes excessive demands on our body that forces the process to be on hold.  The body is left little time for the essential process of eliminating accumulated toxins while it is busy readily performing other vital processes such as digestion.  We are constantly exposed to toxins in the processed and packaged foods we ingest, in the water we use to bathe that our skin readily absorbs and in the air from car exhaust etc.  The toxins that go unprocessed can actually be found stored in our body, often wrapped in mucus and housed in our fat.  The prolonged exposure of toxic build up is what leads to illness and disease.

Even Gwenyth Paltrow is a fan of Clean.  Like Gwenyth writes in her Goop Newsletter, I noticed too amazing results from the program.  In just one week I saw firmer skin, brighter eyes, extra pounds shed and my concept of hunger had surprisingly changed.  The program is easy to follow, integrate into a busy schedule and helps you reevaluate your relationship with food.  By the end of the program CLEAN users are in a unique position to determine what foods are actually irritants to their individual system.  By slowly reintroducing items from the list of excluded foods, users will notice a distress signal sent from the healthy and clean intestinal tract when it does not agree with a particular food item.  The benefits are transformative and include truly experiencing what it means to feel healthy.

i'm getting feedback from readers who say the program is too expensive for them:( read the book- it gives you recipes to do the program without the "clean kit" advertised at www.cleanprogram.com but also consider that by eliminating two meals per day- you are actually saving a lot of money (think about how much dinners can run you, especially with alcohol!!!) that you can put towards the program...
