3 Step Formula for Change

E-mail comment on this item

Everyone has different aspirations and goals they are striving for. Some are career oriented, some may be geared towards family, or friends, or personal things they'd like to obtain. But how do we arrive at our desired destination? There are thousands of self help and time management books it can be an overwhelming amount of information to take it!

I'd like to believe that things can be much more simplistic than that. That there are only three things we need to do in order for change to take place. Sounds nice, doesn't it?

The first step in changing is to visualize. By now, most of us have either heard of the major movie, The Secret or have heard about the law of attraction. In this movie they talk about visualizing I have to agree that this is very important. If we don't have a clear mental picture of what it is that we want and what is possible, how will we know when we have obtained it? You need to have an end point in mind. Not only that, but thoughts are energy; they are made up of the same particles as matter and are as real as you, and they create. What you focus on you tend to attract. It's because our non-conscious mind cannot tell the difference between what is real and what is imagined. How many of us have had the experience of thinking about an old friend, saying, It's been ages since I talked to Mary. And then what happens? You'll get a phone call from Mary later on that evening. I had a good colleague of mine share a fabulous exercise with me. He said to write down your vision and add to it every day. You don't have to add a lot each time just a sentence or two. It will keep you focused as to what your possibilities are, and have you constantly excited and happy about your future.

The second step in the formula for change is to affirm. Reinforce what you are thinking about. Write it down. The written word is even more powerful than the spoken. Now here is the trick; you want to make sure that your affirmations are positive, personal, and present tense. You need to state that you already have what you want. This way you're giving expediency to the universe! Having been an initial sceptic myself, I have to tell you it really works. To this day, I'm convinced that the reason my other half and I got our first home is because of affirming that we already had it. Not only that, but years ago when I was fresh out of school and piled with debt, I made the decision that when I drove around, anything I saw that I wanted, I would say, I can afford that. Well about three or so weeks after beginning this new affirmation, I received a call from the bank. They called to let me know that they had made an error' with my account and that my student loans would be brought back to $0.00. Can you imagine? I was so elated! Since then, I've never looked back.

The last step to change is to act. As the old saying goes, fake it till you make it. As wonderful as affirmations and visualizing is you cannot sit on the couch and expect that everything will come to you through osmosis. You want to make sure that when an opportunity presents itself that you act on it. Act as if what you are affirming has already taken place.

And above and beyond anything else be true to who you are and the rest will fall into place.
