Natural Solutions to PMS

Most of us experience PMS but how do we reduce the symptoms we endure every month?

Instead of popping an Advil or Tylenol every time you feel a cramp, why not try some natural remedies that will greatly reduce PMS symptoms.

Although research is ongoing many people have turned to three great natural options to reduce their pre-menstrual symptoms; Calcium, Magnesium and Evening Primrose Oil. Multiple studies have shown that taking these vitamins can reduce swelling, bloating, depression, mood swings and food cravings. Evening Primrose Oil is also known to clear up acne.

I decided to start my own little experiment. Two months ago I started to regularly take all three of these vitamins. I went to the gym 3-4 times a week and frequently ate small meals to keep up my metabolism. I usually had severe cramps and mood swings during my period, but after changing my lifestyle I saw a drastic change in my symptoms. My mood swings and cramps had almost disappeared and I stopped taking Advil every 4 hours! I also enjoyed the added benefit of the primrose oil which cleared up most of my acne.

Other suggestions to reduce symptoms include the elimination of caffeine right before your period. Caffeine can cause depression, anxiety and also triggers breast tenderness. Furthermore, try to reduce dairy, fatty foods, sugar, salt and red meat. Instead start to eat foods that are rich in potassium like fish and broccoli (yum). A friend told me that a trip to the gym will also reduce cramps. As an experiment I did some light cardio and felt so much better after my exercises. Lastly, remember to just relax. Take time out of your day to de-stress by taking a couple of deep breathes. All these little things combined will make a huge difference in how your body reacts during your special time of the month.
