How to decorate your plate

Recent studies on women's health show that ladies are not getting enough fruits and vegetables in their diet and that their variety of colour content is sorely lacking. Sometimes we tend to stock up on our favourite dish and forget to explore other territory. This means that not only are we minimizing our taste bud capacity, but we are missing out on the nutrients that vary from plant to plant. If your dining decor is looking a little bland in the bowl, here is a list of vegetables by colour that you should remind yourself to buy next time you go grocery shopping - and don't be afraid to mix 'em up, this is the one area where colour clashing is encouraged!

GREEN - artichokes, asparagus, avocados (excellent source of the good kind of fat and calories), broccoli, green beans, kiwis, romaine lettuce.

YELLOW - lemons (good in tea, spritzed in water or juice, lemonade), pineapples, pears, corn

ORANGE - oranges, peaches, clementines, tangerines, mango, canteloupe, carrots, sweet potatoes

RED - tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, strawberries, bell peppers

BLUE - blueberries, grapes
