B.C. Oysters Cause Illness in Dozens of Canadians This Week
Well, there go my weekend plans.
A
shocking new report from the The Canadian Food Inspection Agency is
vehemently warning oyster-lovers (like myself) to avoid eating the
shelled delicacies - especially if they are from British Columbia.
CBChas reported that In the last few weeks, oysters from the west coast
have been linked to more than three clusters of a norovirus-type outbreak in the Vancouver area.
According to the CFIA, Pacific Rim Shellfish's petite raw oysters are likely the culprit.
The
B.C. Centre for Disease Control is now looking into
crisis, as an alarming number of people have starting reporting awful diarrhea and other
unpleasant intestinal symptoms after enjoying these slippery snacks. A
majority of the people showed symptoms only 48 hours after eating the
raw oysters, however many confirmed that the symptoms only lasted about
two days. Fewf!
But, no need to pull out the hazmat suits just yet. Norovirus
is just a fancy name for the stomach flu.
Now, experts are
left to speculate as to how the oysters became infected with the virus. And, get this, many contend that this outbreak may be the result of sewage seeping into
the waters from which the oysters are harvested!
All we can say is; ew.
Is it okay if we cancel our table at Rodney's tonight?
