Owwww. No One Likes A Headache

altYou’re sitting there and suddenly, it hits you, or maybe it comes slowly and surely, but no matter how it comes, the feeling is familiar - between the eyes, or an all over pain. Yes, it’s a headache.

They aren’t the end of the world but they are downright annoying, and can get in the way of going about your day. We have been conditioned to pop an Tylenol or Ibuprofen and be done with it.  What if there was another way to treat headaches? Maybe amore natural way, with all the effectiveness of a pill?

People who want an alternative cure for headaches, one that is natural and not chemical, will be happy to find out that there are numerous natural ways to get rid of a headache. Woman.ca recommends:

Aromatherapy
Aromatherapy is simply an alternative branch of medicine that uses the healing properties of essential oils. It is proven to be one of the most effective natural answers to headache. * Peppermint, * Lavender, * Eucalyptus top the list. Try to experiment to find out which scent works best for you. Aromatherapy treatments can be done at home, or at a spa. Use them in a massage. It’s relaxing and stimulating. Remember, wherever you might be, make sure it’s in a relaxing, low lit environment, so that your sense of smell is heightened. Meditation and an absence of light and sound are all conducive to headache treatment.

Physical Activity
Maybe you’ve been at the computer screen too long. Focusing on one task for too much time can bring on a headache. Headache relief might be as simple as getting up. It is known that physical activity reduces pain due to hormone secretion of endorphins. Less is known that physical activity is effective in reduction of pain if the pain caused by headaches. An easy walk will significantly reduce your headaches. Get outside and breath in some air. You will feel an improvement. Just make sure that it is not exaggerating because if you sweat and get tired you can achieve the opposite effect, an even worse headache.

Hot and Cold
No, don’t put on the Katy Perry tune by the same name [it would make it undoubtedly worse]. We’re talking about temperature. Did you know that changing the surface temperature of the body has surprising effects? If you suffer from headaches, short-term changes in temperature can stop it. The opposite is also true- if you do not have a headache, its possible a change in temperature will bring one on. For some people, a cold shower and some warm shower helps to relieve headaches.

Good Habits
Headaches can have many causes, probably more than any other symptoms. Everything you do in life can cause headaches. That is why it is so difficult to find a good cure for a headache because every headache can have different causes.
* Going to bed and morning wake up should be at the same time each day. Irregular sleep, one day or a couple of days out of the week, and almost zero for the weekend will almost certainly lead to headaches. Make sure to get sleep. A healthy 7 hours for adults is what you should aim for.
* Moderate intake of caffeine – Coffee eases headaches, as it causes blood capillaries to contract. But once the effects wear off, you might be asking for more trouble. Have one to two cups a day.
* Lightweight and lean – your diet has an affect on your headaches and your over all health and moods. Keep whole grains, fruits and veggies a part of your game plan. Avoid empty calorie foods like sweets, and watch out for trans and saturated fats.

Remember, not everyone’s natural headache cure will b the same, and some people might need medication, along with these suggestions. Always consult your doctor about your headaches, and get check ups regularly. A headache might be an indicator for something more serious.

If you have any other natural remedies or alternatives to help ease the common head pains, we’d love to hear from you!
