We bet you think you know how to put on your sunscreen.
How hard could it be, right? But actually, you might be making a few
simple mistakes that are drastically reducing the effectiveness of the
sunblock you're using. Follow these steps to make sure that you're
protected from the damaging rays of the sun.
First, many people apply far too little sunscreen. Use a nickel-sized drop - not pea- or pearl-sized - to cover your face, dermatological expert Dr. Linda Evans tells TotalBeauty.com. If you're concerned that it'll make your face greasy, pick up a special facial sunscreen at the drugstore - these often have mattifying effects that'll prevent you from looking oily as the day goes on.
Already got a tan? Naturally dark-skinned? You still need sunscreen. Even if you don't burn, UV rays can be doing damage to your cells - the kind of damage that can one day lead to skin cancer. Even if you think you're immune to sunburn, there's nothing to be lost by protecting yourself.
Once you've applied your sunscreen, remember to reapply it throughout the day. Dr. Evans recommends that the fair among us reapply ever two hours, while darker skinned individuals can get away with every four.
