Trapping Pesky Fruit Flies with... Fruit!

If your kitchen is anything like mine is right now - okay like my BOYFRIEND's is right now - there are fruit flies swarming and making new fruit flies and swarming more. Even though its not a particularly unclean kitchen, these pesky little guys will not take "Shoo Fly Shoo!" for an answer.
Following a little bit of internet research, we created a surprisingly effective - and free - fruit fly trap. Start with a empty bowl (or water bottle, or jar) and put a few pieces of cut up fruit inside it. You can also add some wine, honey or balsamic vinegar, whichever you think these flies would like for dinner, and then cover the bowl tightly with plastic wrap. Use a fork to poke numerous small holes in the newfangled lid and watch as all those little flies enter and become unable to escape. Wow, that sounds oddly evil...
Once you've caught your fair share, simply take the bowl outside, remove the plastic wrap and let the flies free to invade someone else's fruit bowl. Repeat as necessary. Make sure to empty your garbage, mop up your spills and compost your old fruit and veggies outdoors so your fruit flies do not return.
This DIY method of fruit fly capture saves you using a household bug spray that may contain harmful pesticides.
