Toronto-based artist's colourful art adds character to homes
As the launch of Your Designer Friend's new website draws closer, it's time to fall in love with some of the darling products and suppliers soon-to-be-featured on it.
Blair Chivers is no stranger to design and style mags. But his shy, take-me-as-I-am persona means he's comfortable leaving his promotions to his friends.
Blair is a screen print artist, based in Toronto. His work in Canada is primarily custom order, which is in complete contrast to his design philosophy. His work is priced low. He sees it as a changeable, accessible medium for beautifying our spaces. He takes inspiration from high fashion and sets his seasonal colour palette based on the runways. One look at his work will help preserve that period in fashion.
The simplicity of his work in no way shadows the genius behind his reinvention of the art world. He wants you to buy a piece, enjoy it but don't be afraid to think of it as a temporary installation. We change our clothes and personal colour palettes seasonally and art should be the same, if we so please.
At $95.00 for an original 12x12 work, you can embrace your fleeting love of the antler and damask motifs. You can buy it in cobalt blue and happily add a burnt orange next year if your mood so strikes.
His work can often add some personality in children's rooms. Inspiring and graphic, they provide a pop of colour without compromising the parent's contemporary style.
House and Home magazine called Blair's work a "must have" and I wholeheartedly agree!
His entire collection will be available on designerfriend.ca, but as with fashion they will be limited selection which change seasonally.
