How to get rid of fruit flies
The humidity has finally lifted and it seems like we're in the clear as far as heat waves go - whew! Nothing else to worry about, right? Well some of you may have noticed that the onset of a new season is usually accompanied by an onslaught of certain seasonal, pesky insects. September sees a lot of households riddled with fruit fly infestations. Yuck! No matter how clean your kitchen is, there always seems to be an irritating swarm of fruit flies around your basket of bananas or open dish of candies on the coffee table for guests. Want to know how to beat those little guys? Here's a DIY Fruit Fly Trap idea that will help you out.
1) Find a clean, odorless jar to use.
2) Take a piece of fruit, preferably a banana for its strong scent. Place a chunk of the banana inside the jar.
3) Fit a piece of plastic wrap over the top of the jar, tightly seal it. Poke a few fruit fly shaped holes in it, this way the fruit flies will crawl in but will not fly out.
4) Leave the jar in an open area of the kitchen where they have flocked to the most and let it sit for about 24 hours. Once the jar is full with flies, cover the jar and dispose of it ASAP!
You may need to repeat this process a couple of times in a week to be extra sure that you've rid yourself of all of the flies, but the simplicity of this method is guaranteed to work. Also, check around your house for leaks, spills, or crumbs that could be lying around unnoticed and perpetuating the buzz. Good luck!
