Decorating your porch or patio for summertime

altWhile your deck chairs and tiki torches might have sat unused and covered in snow during the winter months, now that the deep freeze has melted, it's time to get back out on the patio! Is there anything better than relaxing outdoors on a sunny day, soaking up the rays and breathing in the scent of fresh flowers? Whether you're entertaining guests or just enjoying your favorite book, you'll want to make sure that your deck, porch or patio is in tip-top shape for the season - here are a few decorating tips.

Candles are an excellent addition to any outdoor space, even if you don't light them. Pick some bright colors with light fragrances to enhance the natural perfume of summer, and place them on your tables and window ledges. If you have a problem with bugs like flies and mosquitoes, pick up some citronella candles - they contain an oil that wards off pesky pests while looking just as charming and romantic as the regular variety.

If you're going to be spending time in the sun, you're going to get thirsty - and a pitcher is the perfect thing to keep nearby so you can refill your glass in a jiffy. A beautiful glass pitcher with a unique painted design will look equally beautiful as a decoration as it will when filled with your favorite summer beverage, like raspberry lemonade, sangria or sweet tea.

Finally, invest in a couple of throws to keep draped over your patio furniture. If the temperature dips at night, you won't have to head inside - just grab a warm blanket and snuggle up under the stars.
