Using mirrors to open up a small living space

altWhen you have a limited amount of space to work with in a room, it can seem impossible to make it feel more inviting. However, just because you have a lack of square footage doesn't mean you have to give up on trying to make the area feel bigger. There are a number of ways that you can achieve this, thanks to optical illusions.

Mirrors can be a homeowner's best friend, especially when a design dilemma presents itself. Instead of just painting a space a bright hue to try to open it up, consider placing decorative mirrors on the walls. These accents can quickly make the room feel larger than it really is.

When shopping for such pieces, remember that bigger is better. Regardless of what shape you are looking for, try to seek out large mirrors to fill a wall and create a makeshift window. Doing so can quickly brighten a room.

Finally, don't be afraid to have mirrors facing each other in a living space. Restaurants use this trick all of the time, and with good reason: doing so can seemingly enlarge even the dimmest and tiniest of spaces.
