Making a small backyard feel larger and welcoming

Just because you have a small backyard or patio area doesn't mean you can't entertain. Even if you don't want to use the space to throw parties, it's still worthy of being an eye-catching part of your home. Instead of allowing your back yard to fall by the wayside, consider taking the following tips into consideration to open up the space:

1. Think light and airy. When it comes to shopping for patio furniture, it is important to go with a material that can make your small space feel comfortable. Instead of opting for wrought-iron chairs, consider going with wicker for a lighter feel.

2. Provide an adequate amount of lighting. Nothing says small likely a dimly-lit area, inside and out. Make sure to install a proper amount of garden lights or patio lamps around the area to brighten up the space and make it feel larger.

3. Trim your shrubs regularly. Planting flowers and shrubs in your backyard is a great way to make it feel like a private oasis. However, regular pruning is necessary to keep the plants from growing out of proportion - and not to mention, eating up valuable space.
