iPhone Users Have More Sex

Are iPhone Users More Promiscuous?

Dating site Ok Cupid recently polled their users and found that people with iPhones have more sexual partners on average compared to their Blackberry and Android counterparts. My first thought was, are they including FaceTime sex?

The study involved almost 10000 30 year old Ok Cupid members. Would the results be different if other online dating sites like Jdate or Plenty of Fish conducted the same study?

Now don't go out and buy an iPhone and expect your sexual prowess to skyrocket. Let's think for a minute about what sorts of people buy iPhones, Blackberrys and Androids. When I hear Blackberry I think of lawyers, bankers, investors, etc. Blackberry seems to own the market for business smart phones. I think of jobs that involve long hours and people who are addicted to checking their email. It's no big surprise that these users are too busy to have lots of sexual partners.

iPhone junkies listen to cool music, download apps and now with the addition of FaceTime on the iPhone 4, Wired magazine claims the phone is even arousing the porn industry. So is it really a big surprise that they are more sexual?

What does this study mean for poor Android users? Think about your friends who have Android phones. Are they often home alone on a Sat night? Here is some demographic information about Android users published by Nielsen:

"Although Android and iPhone users both skew male (Android users show a 54/46 gender split compared to iPhone's 55/45), there are some striking differences. Android users tend to be slightly younger than their iPhone peers- 55% of Android users are under the age of 34 while just 47% of iPhone users fall within the same demographic. As is usually the case, age is also a prime determinant of income and education, with Android users slightly less wealthy and less educated."

While I don't think this study can really tell us much about the sex lives of smart phone owners, it's a cute, unscientific study that makes me, an iPhone user feel extra special.

Ladies: next time you're down because you don't have a date, go buy an iPhone. Go Apple!
