3 Flicks Not To Miss at TIFF

altHow do you possibly narrow down your film screening choices with over 300 options to choose from? Loyal TIFF enthusiasts often complain that while a week long festival seems like a sufficient amount of time for quality film viewing, choosing which films to go to never ceases to be a precarious task. With a wealth of genres, an abundance of featured talent, and ten days of viewings, how do you know which movies are more worthy of your investment than others? Well, it's probable that you have a few titles in mind, but if you know you want to participate in Toronto's biggest event of the year but you don't know where to start, here are my top 3 film picks based on what I've heard and seen so far. Remember that many of these cinematic creations will be the launch pad for Oscar buzz, so you can't go wrong no matter what you see!

Daydream Nation - This drama film written and directed by Michael Goldbach is already receiving widespread praise for its brilliant portrayal of an alienated teenager who moves with her father to a small Canadian town and finds herself in a life of isolated chaos and destructive romance. Kat Dennings plays seventeen year old Caroline Wexler and is said to give a stunning performance.

Black Swan - Predicted to be a visually sensational masterpiece, Darren Aronofsky's Black Swan is a psychological thriller that connects the premise of the famous ballet Swan Lake with his own dark themes of jealousy and competition within a theatre company. Starring Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis, both of whom trained in ballet for months, promise an enticing glimpse into the world of dance.

Trust - Actor and director David Schwimmer , best known for his role on Friends has graduated to the scene of directing cinema and is proudly featuring his film Trust at TIFF this year. This suspense film is about a young girl named Annie who makes a bad connection with a stranger online. If anything, this production should get a lot of talk and critical acclaim and would be worth seeing for the curiosity factor alone.
