Joaquin Phoenix shocks TIFF and returns to Letterman.
One of the many TIFF flicks making headline news is Joaquin Phoenix's documentary (undetermined 'mockumentary') I'm Still Here, which is a film that follows Phoenix's supposed career transition from acting to rapping. The premise of the film is Phoenix in pursuit of a record produced by rap star P. Diddy and critics so far remain uncertain of whether or not Phoenix's haggard, vulgar debut is a giant hoax or the real deal. Phoenix made local news over the past few days as a stealthy imposter, dressed as the star, frequented TIFF official locations around town and fooled the media into tracking him down in a black limousine and preparing to conduct interviews. The TIFF film premiered Friday night at the Varsity Cinemas and drew a large crowd of reporters waiting for the eccentric star to roll in, only to discover that it was a comic set-up.
Interestingly enough, CBS has announced that Phoenix will return to The Late Show with David Letterman on September 22. The last television appearance he made was on the same show and garnered a wealth of critical reception as the entire interview was incredibly bizarre, landing a spot on YouTube that attracted 8 million views. On September 18, CBS will air the first appearance in anticipation of Phoenix's arrival.
Quite the whirlwind of events for this celebrity whose spectacular portrayal of Johnny Cash in the film "Walk The Line" now seems so far away in light of recent events. TIFF fans planning to see I'm Still Here, don't say we didn't warn you!
