Take A Trip Down Memory Lane With These Fabulous Flicks

Nothing takes me back to high school like a good ol' teen movie.

Little else can quench my thirst for nostalgia better than a heaping dose of teen angst, pre-pubescent romance, and a round of the slow clap.

We can all remember being young, tender and naive. When getting the car' was the highest level of achievement, the mall was our mecca, and boys? Don't even get me started on that.

If you're itching for a sliver of sentiment, try renting one of these flicks. These are our Top Five Teen Movies of all time:

1. The Breakfast Club
If we didn't list a Hughes film, what good would this list be? Breakfast Club. We know, we know. What a cliche selection. But, after all, cliches are what fuel this genre entirely. A group of teens, with nothing in common, haling from different social and economic backgrounds, are forced to spend a Saturday together in the library. Seems innocent enough. However, as is the case in all movies of this variety, you can count on a romance, a fist fight, spontaneous choreography, and a few tear-jerking confessions that could only really surface after a few months of probing therapy. Like, we're talking deep. Deep-deep. Complete strangers digging all the way down to the depths of their souls, and then spilling their guts like peach schnapps on a poodle skirt. Of course, in the end, everyone comes away with a new best friend, full of confidence, and at resolve. Not at all like real high school. But it's definitely entertaining to watch, and therefore makes the top of our list.

2. Jawbreaker

Sure. It's all fun and games until your fellow-clique-member chokes on a candy and dies. This comedy about a group of girls who accidentally murder their best friend while carrying out a harmless prank is a must-see if you like raunchy teen banalities. It's the film that made the slow-mow hallway strut, arms linked, kilts flowing, hair blowing, totally famous. Beautiful, nubile high school girls working together to conceal their crime, while hilarity ensues, outfits change, and romances develop. You can expect mystery, backstabbing drama, and the much beloved make-over scene that all teen movies must incorporate. After all, a 16-year-old girl's worth is always measured by what she wears, not who she is. Right?

3. Carrie
Nothing tastes sweeter than revenge. Just ask a high school outcast. A head's up for anyone who has yet to see this film, there is a a lot of blood. Menstrual blood, pigs blood, all varieties of rich, red syrupy, movie-set blood. So if you have a weak stomach, scare easily, or have ever struggled with unmanageable telekinesis, be advised before renting this film. Carrie, the daughter of a devoutly religious woman, has spent much of her life in the shadows. When, all of a sudden, she has piqued the interest of one of the schools most delectable bachelors. Wary at first, Carrie eventuality lets her guards down, resulting in foreseeable disaster. However, the fair-haired wallflower will be the one who laughs last, as this teen-horror delivers a frightening twist, and a gory ending that will have even the shortest hairs on your arms giving a standing ovation.

4. American Pie

For a high school boy, there are few things more important than sex. And, virgin' is not a label worth wearing in the locker room. So, these boys make a pact to lose their pesky v-cards before prom. Of course, their expectations are not at all met (after all, sex is hardly like rubbing your no-no's up against hot pastry) and encounter many hurtles on their way to the finish line, like viral videos, band-camp foreplay, and prissy (see:respectable) girls who just won't give it up. This laugh-out-loud raunchfest is definitely worth seeing!

5. Brick

When you're in high school, everything is a big deal. A break-up can feel like an earth quake, and failed test can bring on a death wish. In this film, the director cleverly plays on the sense of finality that many high school students encounter. This dark-comedy pokes fun at the high schooler's inability to see the big picture, and their pension for making mountains out of molehills. Sad and hilarious all at once, Brick is the critical yet artistic high school parody film that we've all been waiting for. Shot and casted beautifully, this film makes our list for Top Five Essential Teen Movies.
