Beam Her Up, Scotty!
It's not only nerdy dudes with tape on their glasses that like Sci-Fi! Science fiction is actually a really cool genre that women can enjoy, too!
The plots have been known to provide some excellent opportunities for women to shine. Since the stories are often about battles in space or bug-eyed aliens, you get your fair share of female characters that aren't afraid to show their bones. Here are five of the coolest ladies in Science Fiction film:
Ellen Ripley from Alien
After a vicious alien is discovered on their ship, Ripley stays calm in the face of a terrifying monster. Even the incredibly claustrophobic environment of a ship filled with dead people and an alien, Ripley survives fantastically in order to feature in another Alien movie.
Princess Leia from Star Wars, the Original Trilogy
Princess Leia might have started out as a damsel in distress, but she quickly shows that just because she's a princess doesn't mean she hasn't got a spine. She shoots with the best of them, is an integral part of the rebel alliance and can hold her own against bad boy Han Solo. Even when she's turned into Jabba's slave she shows that she's not your typical princess.
Trinity from The Matrix
Opinions about the latter part of the Matrix trilogy aside, no one can deny that Trinity is one extremely cool woman. Dressed in shiny black leather, extremely knowledgeable in martial arts and capable of killing efficiently and ruthlessly in defence of the fragile human society, Trinity is a force to be reckoned with.
Uhura from Star Trek
Referring specifically to the 2009 movie, Uhura is an independent intelligent woman who proves to be a valuable member of the Enterprise. She helps save the ship from disaster and even manages a relationship with Spock. That's pretty cool.
Sarah Connor from The Terminator (pictured top left)
Although she's hardly awe-inspiring in the first movie, in T2 Sarah Connor proves her worth. She fights vehemently to protect her son and seriously injures the bad guys. She also manages to be an action star of note in a movie that includes Arnold Schwarzenegger
