Toronto Enters a New York State of Mind At SATC2 Release Party
I won't lie. My insides may have done a little dance when I heard I would be going to a Sex and the City party at Toronto's Bata Shoe Museum. A closeted Sex and the City mega-fan, I began spinning a dream in which Sarah Jessica Parker invites me shopping and a Mr. Big look-alike calls me "kid" and brings me a martini.
Okay, so that may have been a pipe dream but my appetite for a little dose of SATC fabulousness was definitely satisfied. Guests were treated to a glass of bubbly upon arrival and offered appetizers as they perused the museum, part of which had been transformed into a walk-in closet of shoes and clothing featured in Sex and the City 2.
It was hard not to be "Carrie-d away" when standing only feet from some of the film's most beautiful footwear and clothing. Displayed in glass cases were four pairs of shoes that the museum curators felt best suited the personalities of Carrie, Miranda, Charlotte, and Samantha. We adored the gold Christian Louboutin Mary Janes with the tell-tale crimson bottom, and feathery Patrick Cox stilettos stole the show.
The "ooh-ing" and "ahh-ing" did not end there. The black sequined shirt and thigh-high boots that Liza Minelli shimmied in, Beyonce-style, were on display, along with outfits worn by Penelope Cruz and Carrie's GBF (gay best friend, duh), the much-loved Stanford Blatch. On another mannequin was an outfit worn by both Samantha and Miley Cyrus in the film, a dress so glitzy that it produced a disco ball effect when lights were shone on it.
The event was held by Warner Bros. Home Entertainment in celebration of the DVD and Blu-Ray release of Sex and the City 2 on October 26. Following a sneak peek at the DVD and Blu-Ray's special features (did you know director Michael Patrick King added a scene for the sole purpose of showing the colour and flow of the fab four's outfits?) the evening's main event began.
Footwear might as well have been the fifth friend in the Carrie, Miranda, Charlotte, and Samantha sisterhood and the soiree paid homage.
Lights were dimmed and attention was shifted to the staircase as a rotation of fresh-faced Ford models (one of them was our featured model, Adrianne Ho), dressed in Carrie-inspired sexy sheaths, put on a flirty footwear fashion show
Strutting to tracks from the film's soundtrack, the ladies showcased this season's sexiest booties and heels from the Fall 2010 collections of Manolo Blahnik and Cesare Paciotti. Audience appreciation was audible, especially for a strappy pair of purple, shimmery stilettos. Pumps in camel, this season's "it" colour, were also drool-worthy.
After the last pair of shoes walked the catwalk, guests were invited to pose for photos with the leggy ladies and to indulge in celebratory cupcakes, topped with - what else? A stiletto made of white chocolate.
A few critics slammed SATC2, saying that it was gratuitous and plotless. What did you think of the second sexy installation?
