The Top Holiday Picks For Chicks
By the time December rolls around, most of us just want to spend our weekends curled up under a blanket with a hot cup of cocoa in hand and a good flick on TV. Some call this time of year "holiday season" while others simply call it "pay-per-view time".
But, no matter the moniker you decide upon, December would be incomplete without an obligatory viewing of some cheesy holiday cinema.
Here are our top selects.
While You Were Sleeping
Secret crushes. Mass miscommunication. Handsome hunks who fall onto train tracks and remain comatose for weeks. Ah, l'amour. In this movie, my personal holiday guilty pleasure, Sandra Bullock stars as Lucy, a woman who rescues the man of her dreams from danger and takes him to the hospital. From there major misunderstanding ensues, and she becomes close to his family over the holidays while waiting for him to return to consciousness. Comical and sorely under appreciated, this movie is a great addition to Christmas festivities.
The Holiday
You can't go wrong with a cast ensemble that features Cameron Diaz, Jude Law, and funny man Jack Black. This rom-com is simple, light-hearted holiday entertainment.
Love Actually
Several love stories woven into one, this flick has become a classic, starring Hugh Grant and Colin Firth. Probably the best part of this movie is its healthy mix of romance and realism.
It's A Wonderful Life
And speaking of classics....we can't forget this one! Heartwarming and sentimental, this film is a total tear jerker and has become a staple of December movie viewing.
Little Women
Call us old-fashioned but this film, based on the book by Louisa May Alcott is a great movie to warm up to by candle light and hot chocolate. It's a story that follows the lives of four sisters who survive heartbreak, rivalry, and deathly illness. The holiday season is the focus of the film adaptation starring Winona Ryder, Claire Danes, and Susan Sarandon and we can't help but find a soft spot in our hearts for this darling coming of age story.
