Who Will Get The Glory This Year?
The golden globe nominations were announced this morning, which has Oscar fanatics totally elated.
Despite
all of the Oscar buzz surrounding 127 Hours, a film about a man stuck
between rocks for 127 Hours, the film failed to garner a nomination in
the Best Motion Picture-Drama category. Shocking! However, James Franco
lived up to the accolades received from critics and audiences as he was
nominated for Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture-Drama.
Another
surprise would have to be the lack-of-nod for Justin Timberlake in The Social Network,
especially when each of his co-stars were selected. I guess Timberlake
still has miles to go before being recognized as a serious actor.
For
me, the most pleasant surprise was Emma Stone’s nomination. Normally
high school comedies like Easy A don’t produce golden globe
nominations, but her terrific performance reeled in a positive response
from the Academy. Stone is well deserving of her nomination of Best
Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture-Comedy or Musical.
Funny
girls rock, but it’s going to be interesting to see come how the
nominees of this category fare against the women in the Drama category.
There is no doubt in my mind that the leading ladies from The Kids Are All Right,Annette Benning and Julianne Moore, are deserving of an Oscar
nomination, but so are the fabulous females in the Drama section.
How
the academy is going to narrow it down from all the fine actresses seen
during this year remains a puzzle to me. Who do you think deserves the
gilded prize?
