Cleopatra: History has her down as one of the sexiest
women to ever live. She allegedly took many lovers - although it may
have, in reality, been as few as two - and her visage adorns many coins
and busts. Her romance with Marc Antony is chronicled in Shakespeare's
canon, and she's revered by ladies the world over for being a powerful,
intimidating and intelligent figure as well as a sex symbol.
But Angelina Jolie, who is slated to play the Pharaoh in an upcoming film adaptation of her life, says she doesn't plan on focusing on Cleopatra's worldly allures.
"[Cleopatra] has been very misunderstood… I thought it was all about the glamour, but then I read about her and she was a very strong mother, she spoke five languages and she was a leader," Jolie told The Telegraph.
"We are trying to get into a different truth about her as a pharaoh in history and not as a sex symbol, because she really wasn’t ... She is very interesting, but she wasn't a great beauty," the actress continued.
Well, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, isn't it, Angelina?
