Family Gathered In New York For Final Goodbyes
According to gossip columnist Liz Smith, Natasha Richardson was taken off life support at 1:30 p.m. ET this afternoon.
Richardson, the daughter of actress Vanessa Redgrave, suffered a devastating head injury Monday while skiing on a beginner's slope outside Montreal. Her husband, Liam Neeson raced from a Toronto movie set to be with her as she was hospitalized.
A statement from the Mont Tremblant resort stated Richardson fell on a beginners trail and later reported not feeling well. A spokesperson said, "An hour later she said she didn't feel well. She had a headache, so we sent her to the hospital. There were no signs of impact and no blood, nothing."
On Tuesday, a private jet brought Richardson and Neeson to Lenox Hill Hospital in New York where friends and family members including her husband, mother and sister Joely Richardson gathered together for a vigil.
Reports of wildly varying degrees of believability circulated throughout the media about Natasha's conditions before a family friend reportedly told People magazine yesterday, "There is no chance. It is a fact that her heart is beating but she is brain dead."
An official statement is expected from her family later today.
