From Never-Been-Kissed to Million Dollar Lady
"I'm 47," the affable Susan Boyle states during her Britain's Got Talent audition, "And that's just one side of me."
She's not wrong. The Scottish native dubbed 'The Woman Who Shut Up Simon Cowell' shocked judges, the audience, and the world alike with her powerful, booming rendition of Les Misérables' "I Dreamed A Dream". Before singing, cat calls and jeers were hooted at her from the bewildered audience, but her performance earned her a standing ovation and praise from the judges.
Simon Cowell wasn't the only one impressed - Youtube videos of her performance have been skyrocketing with hits. She's even reportedly in the midst of negotiating a contract with Sony Music.
Boyle may not seem like the traditional superstar, but a voice like hers deserves to be heard. Her popularity is particularly heartening, as her lovely voice and friendly personality are why we're all talking about her. She's not in rehab, there was no leaked sex tape. If more people were famous due to their talent rather than their public misgivings, maybe the world would be a better place.
I'm not going to lie, though, it would be awesome to see her on the cover of Star Magazine stumbling out of a nightclub with Lindsay and Paris. But I imagine that even if Boyle achieves that level of notororiety, it still wouldn't sully the pureness of her discovery. And that's beautiful.
