Diamonds Are a Boy's Best Friend?
Canadian Jazz sensation Michael Bublé proposed to his soap opera star girlfriend Luisana Loreley Lopilato de la Torre almost a year ago but today Yahoo is buzzing about the jewelry he's sporting.
When asked about his ring which he wears on his left hand Michael said, "The boy also wears the engagement ring (in Argentina). That's what she tells me anyway." [via Yahoo]
In North America we're used to gushing over a diamond worn by the woman, but apparently in other countries men wear engagement rings as well.
Here are some interesting engagement traditions according to Wikipedia from other parts of the world:
-
In some South American countries, (like in Argentina where Luisana is from), both the man and woman use one ring, similar to the wedding rings, made of silver instead of gold. Their wedding bands are then made of gold.
-
In Nordic countries such as Finland and Norway, both men and women wear an engagement ring.
-
In Brazil, they are always made of gold, and there is no tradition for the engagement ring. Both men and women wear the wedding band on their right hand while engaged, and after they marry, they shift the rings to their left hands.
