Music Downloading Program Calls It Quits
Remember Napster? We don't either, really...
But we do remember it falling off the radar, and we are saddened by the fact that another muisc downloading site (... not that we ever use it...) has now been ripped from our desktops.
Yep. Say goodbye to another music downloading program. The P2P file sharing software, Limewire, was forced to disable its program by court ordered injunction last week. Music lovers are torn on the subject while the recording industry is celebrating another triumph over piracy.
However, does this mean that LimeWire users will start investing in store purchased tunes again? That's the question, and all signs are pointing towards other cost-free alternatives such as FrostWire and BearShare. The lawsuit was filed by 13 record labels: Warner Bros, Arista, Capitol Records and more claimed that LimeWire users were able to exchange copies of more than 3,000 of their copyrighted recordings.
When speaking to Associated Press, LimeWire spokesperson Tiffany Guaraccia said, "We are out of the file-sharing business, but you can make it known that other aspects of our business remain ongoing". That is to say, their online music store remains open. But iTunes' music store has always been far more successful in comparison - so what will LimeWire users do next?
