VMA committee criticized for snubbing pop stars

altThe MTV Video Music Awards have become one of the most popular award shows, despite the fact that the channel plays virtually no music videos anymore. This week, the nominations for the 2011 VMAs were released, and not everyone was happy.

Pop stars and music fans alike feel that the committee snubbed many stars that deserved nominations for the upcoming award show slated for August 28, according to CBS News. Among the people who received little or no mention were Rihanna, Ke$ha and Lady Gaga. However, Katy Perry racked up nine nominations, including Video of the Year.

Nicki Minaj, Eminem and Beyonce each had three nominations. R&B star Bruno Mars was only slightly ahead of the stars with four nominations of his own.

The list of performers has yet to be finalized. However, one can only wonder if some of these A-list celebrities may be inclined to take a pass on the 2011 VMAs after being snubbed. Considering many people only watch the award show to see the performances, this could be a big hit to the MTV special. Tune in on August 28 to see who makes an appearance on the red carpet.
