This group is dedicated to all the fierce women in the music industry! If you know of any up and coming women artists, or found a new, hot song, post it here!
Hi there, is anyone into an artist called Jill Barber? She has the most amazing, sultry voice and is playing at the Edmonton Folk Festival on August 8 which I cannot wait to see her at! If you like old school music with jazz and folk influences please check her music out. You can listen to her new material on her website: www.jillbarber.com
i don't follow entourage, but i agree 'creator' is badass. her whole album is strong, especially considering its her debut and she's only previously written material for other people!
has anyone had a chance to listen to the new yeahyeahyeah's album, "it's blitz"? karen o. has outdone even herself. she is just ferocious on every track!
Ooooh! Miranda, I LOVE Santogold. My favourite song of her's is Creator. If you're a fan of Entourage, it's played while the whole crew is walking down the red carpet, and is unbelievably badass.
'LDN' is awesome because it has a bouncy pop tune but it's lyrics are so subversive -- "a fella looking dapper and he's sitting with a slapper, then i see it's a pimp and his crack whore" -- ha!
another lady i was really digging around christmas time is santogold. incidentally, she helped co-write a song for lily allen with mark ronson. her songs "l.e.s. artistes" and "lights out" were pretty much the only things i listened to over the holidays.
rosemina -- fair enough. i saw her live last week and i just thought she had really strong stage presence, reminiscent of feist or ani difranco. i listened to "broken strings" and i enjoyed it, but i didn't love it. there's something about nelly furtado that i've always had trouble connecting with... also, i totally agree with sarah -- the new lily allen album is awesome! i'm so glad she's out of her annoying whiny-mopey-woe-is-me phase and back making great pop music!
