Just because it seems like there are less jobs and less money circulating, doesn't mean you have to have less fun. There are tons of free (or nearly free) things to do around Toronto that don't involve digging deep into one's wallet. Sometimes it's hard to find these activities/events, so I'll try to provide some helpful tips on events that interest me and hopefully you too:

#1: Retro Reels

This has lots of elements I love: movies, the 80s, the outdoors and it's free! Rather than forking out the cash for a summer blockbuster in an overly AC-ed theatre (and don't get me started about the price of movies, whatever happened to toonie Tuesdays?) why not check out some awesome 80s flicks with nature's AC, the breeze off the water down at the Harbourfront? Grab a blanket, some popcorn and a friend and check out Retro Reels. Movies begin at sundown (9pm) and run every Wednesday from July 8 with Pretty in Pink to August 12 with Labyrinth (one of my faves! Young Jennifer Connolly and David Bowie. You remind me of the babe!). In between are Breakin' on July 15, Desperately Seeking Susanon July 22, Stop Making Sense on July 29 and Say Anything on August 5.
