altGot a baby on the way? Chances are, you're struggling to pick out the perfect name for your soon-to-be son or daughter. And just when you think you've hit upon the perfect, unique name, a thousand other moms and dads have the same idea and your little one is stuck being Aydyn S. for the rest of his days. (Not that that's necessarily a bad thing - plenty of Jessicas, Jennifers, Matts and Mikes have grown up just fine with dozens of similarly-named classmates.) Below, we'll remind you of some of the decade's most popular names so you can be sure you're picking out the right one for Junior.

Canada's most popular baby names are always a mix of the trendy and the classic, and 2009 (the most recent year for which data is available) was no exception. According to Today's Parent, the most popular girl's name was Emma - a name that's been on the top for years. With Emily coming in at number two, little girls with these names are sure to wind up going by their last names by middle school. Like the name Emily but don't want you daughter to be one of dozens? Consider similar names with the same root, like Amelia. Other popular girls names include Olivia, Sophia, Sarah, Ava, Mya, Hannah and Chloe. As for boys, traditional names still rule. Ethan, Jacob and Nathan round out the top three, followed by William, Alexander, Noah and Matthew. If you're looking for something a little more unique, a few unexpected names have broken into the top 25, such as Logan, Aiden and Jayden.
