Getting your kids to eat their cereal

altGetting your little ones to enjoy a healthy bowl of cereal in the morning isn't always an easy task. Between getting them ready for school and convincing them that a candy bar doesn't count as a nutritious breakfast, you don't have much time to convince them that the bowl of Cheerios you poured is actually the best thing they can eat to start their day. If you need some help getting your kids to eat healthy in the morning, here are a few tips.

If your kids have a sweet tooth, substitute vanilla soymilk for cow's milk. It's sweeter than regular milk - and it's lower in fat and calories. Your little ones might not be excited by the prospect of an unfamiliar snack, so don't tell 'em - they'll never know the difference. For a little boy or girl who just can't shake that craving for candy, try chocolate soymilk - it's a fun treat that's as yummy as it is healthy.

Do your kids prefer a hot meal in the morning? Instead of cereal, prepare oatmeal. Oatmeal is warm, filling and good for you - studies have shown that it can even help lower your cholesterol, so why not have a bowl yourself? Top it with brown sugar or fresh fruit for a sweet treat that's still healthy and satisfying.

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, so make sure your kids sit down to enjoy a bite or two before they rush out the door to head to school this fall.
