It's hard to believe, but August is just around the
corner - which means it's almost time to put away the sidewalk chalk,
scooters and camp gear and send the kids back to school. Of course, no
school-age child wants to face his or her classmates in last year's
gear. Even if you're on a budget, you can pick up all the essentials for
your little ones before the first bell rings - and here's how.
Before your indulge your kids' desires for new shoes, new outfits and new haircuts, make sure you've got all the essentials. Younger kids will need tools like colored pencils, crayons and scissors, while older students can get by with a notebook or two, some new pens and a backpack or tote to carry it all in. If your kid is a math whiz who needs a fancy graphing calculator, make sure you factor it into your total expensive, as that can kind of equipment can rack up a pretty high price tag.
That first-day-of-school outfit can be a source of anxiety to young ladies and gentleman alike, so make sure your little one has some practical clothes that he or she loves. Sneakers are an important part of a good school day ensemble, since they easily transition to gym class without the need to carry around an extra pair of kicks. Always make sure that your kids' outfits are appropriate for the dress code, since middle schoolers can often try to slip by with straps that are too thin or shorts that are too short - only to wind up in the principal's office later that day.
With backpacks packed and outfits ready to go, your kids won't just accept that they're heading back to the classroom - they'll be excited about it!
