Who Let The Dog Story Out?
In the biggest leak since Watergate, sources report that Malia and Sasha Obama got their pooch on Saturday.
As is the case with many secrets in Washington, the Obamas were unable to conceal the puppy's identity until the official announcement, which was scheduled for Tuesday.
The four-legged family member is a 6-month Portuguese water dog the Obama girls have named Bo. Malia and Sasha chose the name because their cousins have a cat named Bo and first lady Michelle Obama's father was nicknamed Diddley. Get it? Bo . . . Diddley?
But consider the alternative: Given the young Obama daughters' musical tastes, the dog could have been named after one of the Jonas Brothers.
Says a source, "Bo's a handsome little guy. Well suited for formal occasions at the White House, he's got tuxedo-black fur, with a white chest, white paws and a rakish white
goatee."
The Obama girls first met their dog a few weeks ago in a visit known around the White House as "The Meeting." The well-behaved puppy -- who obediently followed the president around the room -- wore a lei to surprise the girls.
The Obamas initially hoped to get a pooch from the pound but fellow Portie-lover Senator Kennedy offered the purebred canine to the Obama girls after its previous family could not take care of it.
Sensing an opportunity to show that the Republican party is still top dog, pit bull Rush Limbaugh will call for congressional hearings into Puppy Gate: Why a Portuguese water dog? Why not a dog with an American name? Why a water dog? There are land dogs too, you know. Dog from a Kennedy? Guess that means it was born with a silver chew toy in his mouth. Did they get a black dog on purpose? What's wrong with a white dog? Are our tax dollars going to feed a dog?
Expect Puppy-quiddick jokes come Monday.
