When we start dating someone new, we look for all sorts of ways to gauge their personalities, their likes and their dislikes. We infer things from their style, their favourite movie, and how quickly they eat their food. Ever thought about his pets could say about him?

Researchers at the University of Texas at Austin conducted a survey of over 4,500 people to find out what our preference between dogs and cats says about us. The findings were pretty revealing. Read on to find out what your man's choice says about his personality.

If he's a dog person...

If your guy's best friend really is a canine, it probably means that he's outgoing and quite social. Dog lovers tend to be extroverts, who like to surround themselves with people. According to the survey, dog people are also more self-disciplined, goal-oriented, and conscientious than feline fans. The dog-loving man works hard for what he wants, but always makes time for fun and games.

If he's a cat person...
Study results showed that people who identified themselves as cat lovers tend to appreciate different things than dog lovers. Feline folks may be more inclined towards art, poetry, philosophy, and creative expression. They also tend to be more introverted; big groups of people may not be their scene. The man who chooses "Fluffy" over "Spot" likes to spend Friday nights on the couch with a bottle of wine and a Sundance Film Fest selection.

If he's both...
Does your guy have equal love for both cats and dogs? Even if he bats for both species, research says he probably exhibits more characteristics of a dog lover than those of a cat lover.
