Odd Pets People Keep

altThings that meow, bark and tweet are pretty standard pet fare, but have you considered other, perhaps more exotic possibilities? Like a ferret or even a tarantula? Some of these animals are easily tamed at home with proper care and can turn out to be great pets. Here are five weird pets that people find oh-so loveable.

Kinkajou
Like it’s name, this animal is not only weird but also very cute. Also known as a “sugar bear” – yes, seriously - It looks like a chinchilla hamster and squirrel all mixed into one silly creature. It originates from the rain forest. You will love to play with this small creature. Kinkajou’s are extremely playful but mischievous.

Piranhas
If you like to keep your pets in a tank, trade in boring gold fish for some real aquarium excitement. A piranhas is cool, and has some cult-celeb status. They are known to be aggressive and flesh eating, so you’ll need to be very careful while feeding it. Always take advice from experienced aquarists before setting up a place for it. Not advised for a house with small kids.

Wallaby
Back on land, how would you like to own a tiny kangaroo?  Known as the wallaby, this creature is very friendly, peaceful and loving, not aggressive or dangerous in the least. The work wallaby means marcopod In Latin, so it has big silly feet. Wallaby;s need lots of room for playing, hopping and jumping.

Tarantulas
Not that we would ever want this in our house, but some people liken the tarantuala to descriptive words like ‘cute’. Yuck. Tarantulas belong to spider family. They are very big and hairy, known for their ‘savage beauty’. Taming tarantulas is a daunting task. Tarantulas are usually calm unless provoked. If furious, they spit out their venom as reflex action. Therefore, you must be very cautious while bringing up this weird pet at home. Maybe you should consider a hamster.

Petauristini
Petauristini or Pteromyini, better known as flying squirrels make great pets. This animal is quite different from normal breeds of squirrels, for obvious reasons i.e., the flying part. The joy comes in the taming of the flying squirrel – like a boy with bad manners – or like a newborn baby. This pet is for people who like active pets or if you think you have mild A.D.D., this pet will surely keep your attention. Its body is soft and furry and it's very playful and affectionate.

Born in Toronto, Hilary Lauren Fox is an only child to artist parents - mom was an illustrator and pattern maker, dad was a painter.  Rather then studying the arts as her parents hoped for, Hilary opted for a degree in psychology with dreams of working in a clinical setting. But after graduating she realized that the apple doesn't fall far from the tree and that the arts was in her blood, applying her education within the art and fashion world.
