Get your kids to eat their veggies

altDoes Junior always push his broccoli to the side of his plate? Do you catch him sneaking his peas to the dog under the table? Getting kids to eat their vegetables can be a challenge, especially when they're always clamoring for mac 'n' cheese, fish sticks and chicken nuggets. Here are a few ways to make sure that your kids get their servings of fruits and veggies - and like it.

First, try cooking the vegetables into the meal. A vegetable lasagna is a great way to trick kids into eating carrots, squash and zucchini - plus, if you make the sauce from scratch, you can add plenty of fresh tomatoes. A pot pie is another way to bake some veggies into a delicious meal. Classic chicken pot pie is delicious, and hides lots of healthy peas, corn, carrots and onions.

You can also help your kids feel better about eating their veggies by allowing them to pick out their favorites at the grocery store. If your kids choose their own veggies, they're less likely to feel as though you're forcing them to eat something icky.

Finally, if your kids don't want to eat healthy, you can at least make them drink healthy. Instead of soda, stock your fridge with fruit and vegetable juices (many of which come disguised by familiar fruits) so that when your kids are thirsty, they'll reach for something fulfilling and nutritious.
