Are you overweight and pregnant? Luckily, you can safely shed some pounds during your pregnancy, as long as you know how to do it in a healthy way that'll be good for both you and your baby. Average-weight women are told to gain between 25 and 35 pounds during their pregnancies, but obese women should gain only 11 to 20 pounds during gestation. However, a few studies have suggested that women who are seriously overweight can even lose a few pounds while pregnant, Reuters reports. That doesn't mean you should start a diet - doing so could restrict nutrients to your baby.
But it does mean that switching to healthier foods, avoiding candy, soda and other junk snacks and starting an exercise regimen can be good not just for you, but also for your little one. There is a caveat, however. Women who lost weight during pregnancy were more likely to have babies who were small for their gestational age. If you're ready to change your weight, it might be best to wait until your baby arrives - that way, you can embark on your healthy journey without worrying about your little one's health, too.
